Happenings in the Jensen House

First things first, we are expecting our next addition to the family in September! I will use creating new life as an excuse for my general laziness on the blog (and other things too!) We are very excited. This new member of the family will be needing some of Luke's furniture ie: the crib and such so we decided that it would be smart to get him use to the idea of a big boy bed before little brother/sister showed up.

This is the day I took him in the spare room upstairs that just happens to hold a perfectly good twin size bed, and shared a secret with him. I pointed at the bed and said, This is Luke's Big Boy Bed. Luke eyes got wide and he said, Loop's big boy bed?? I like that. From there he jumped up and insisted on covering himself with every blankie known to man and snuggling in.

How is it possible that he can look so grown up?

And he is still obsessed with cars.

Here is Luke's room with the Big Boy Bed. The entire time I was setting it up, Luke was going 100 miles an hour yelling EXCITED!!! And everything I added to his bed: the mattress, mattress pad, sheets blankies, he would run up to me and say, THANK YOU MAMA! He is a little excited isn't he? And he just jumped up and started reading his books.

But now, he will not settle down for bed. Hmmm....maybe not my best idea setting up the bed this close to bed time.

Cloudy day walk

We have been suffering from a series of colds in this house since January. I have gone out of my mind from all the kleenex using, eating (mostly by Bruno, I know gross), and throwing away that has consumed the Jensen household. Luke and I are still trying to get over this last cold. We have been moping around the house and taking long naps. But finally, we got a little stir crazy and had to go on a little walk around the neighborhood.

We did a lot of exploring. Checking out the grass, leaves, seeds, and rocks were a definite favorite. Here he is working his muscles.

This is a classic Luke face. I asked him to smile and look at Mommy. This is all I got. Awesome. I'm sure I'll have identical photos of that face all throughout his childhood and probably even at his Mission Farewell.

This one is somewhat nicer, but I got no eye contact. Oh well. I kinda prefer the previous one :)

This is what it looked like outside today. Yesterday is was almost 90 degrees. But the high for today is about 65, and cloudy. Seriously?

Throwing every rock he could get his hands on. Kicking rocks would be a second choice. Did I say that the walk took about an hour? And that was pretty much just around 2 blocks? There's no rushing fun though.

And we ended up at the little park by our house. I love the movie line from Forrest Gump. "Everywhere he was going, he was running." That is pretty much my boy to perfection.

Slumber Party

Just the other night, Bruno had been feeling a little under the weather - upset tummy is my guess. And he was moping around following me everywhere I went. I told him to just go find a comfy place to lay down. Off he went. He really can be pretty obedient for a 100+ pound dog. I didn't think much of it until it was Luke's bed time. And this is what I found:

See that doggy rump in the corner??

Bruno had squeezed himself in the tiny corner between Luke's crib and the wall. It is unbelievable that he even fit himself in there. But he was pretty snug.

Luke was over the moon thinking he was going to get to have a sleep over with his furry brother. That never happens. I imagine it would play out with Luke chattering and climbing out of his bed only to torment Bruno since the door would be shut and there would be no escape. Then Bruno would be at the door crying and barking for someone to save him. Not really how I'd like to spend my sleepy time, personally.

Luke is explaining all the fun things he has planned for their sleepover. Poor Bruno won't even make eye contact.

This is Luke's sad face when he realizes Mommy is a killjoy and won't let Bruno stay the night. Color him disappointed.

And amazingly Bruno just gracefully got up and backed himself out of the corner with ease. He didn't even need the "Beep, Beep, Beep" noise garbage trucks use when they back up. He's gotten pretty good at that :)

Luke and his Bunny

Yes, this is Bunny the Sock Monkey. Today Luke decided he needed clothes....and a diaper. Could they be any cuter? The other day I heard Luke having a conversation with Bunny. It went something like this:

"Bunny go outside?"
"Wanna go outside?"
"Okay"

He takes Sock Monkey on the Deck.

"See, outside!"
"Yay!"
"Bunny, I love you."

I cracked up. Then I thought, maybe Luke needs a sibling. Especially after he dressed Bunny up.

Lucas' 2nd Birthday

I can't believe it's been 2 years since our dream of becoming parents has come true. Time rushes by too fast. I remember bringing home from the hospital. He was so tiny. Each milestone passes and I am so excited and pleased for him. But my heart aches a tiny bit too. They grow up so fast. But Luke has really grown up the last year. He has always been a physical kid and not much really intimidates him. He loves anything to do with cars/trains and balls. He's all boy, through and through. His vocabulary has really exploded this year. And I'm surprised everyday with the new words he picks up. But my favorite thing about my son is his sweet heart. He is always quick to notice if someone is sad, and is willing to go give them a hug and a kiss to make it better. Melts my heart.

This year for his birthday we decided to keep it just our family. We're a busy working family so we decided to keep it small and just have a pizza and movie party - Pirate Themed of course.

Lucas had a hard time waiting for the pizza to arrive, and he had already been eyeing the cake, so he picked out some pears to eat while watching Kung Fu Panda.

Here is his birthday loot. And yes, you may notice that one of his gifts is wrapped in Christmas paper. Well, he had gotten so overwhelmed with the gifts that he got, that he missed one. So we saved it for his birthday. It all worked out :)

Luke noticed the gifts and ran over yelling, "Santa!" He's definitely remembering this past Christmas. And he started dancing around wanting to open them up right away. I told him we could open them after dinner and cake. Well, that wasn't a good enough answer.

So he used his problem solving skills and pull a kitchen chair over to the counter. Smart kiddo.

He looks pretty happy, doesn't he?

Luke has had a taste of Root beer before. But I've never let him have a cup to drink. So I thought, why not ? And let me tell ya, he's in love.

I made a homemade cake for Luke again this year. I am not super crafty, but I do love to bake a yummy cake. And this one I pulled from my recipe box. We haven't had it in years, but it surely didn't disappoint.

This is his face when we started singing Happy Birthday. He was so excited, then he got all embarrassed and started covering his face. It was so cute!

Blowing out candles with Daddy.

How cute are they?

While we were getting ready to cut the cake, Luke decided to sneak a taste of the icing. And since he was the birthday boy, I let him get away with it.

After he devoured his cake, and we took his shirt off because it was destroyed, it was present time. His first gift was from Grandma and Grandpa Smith. He was so excited that he didn't want to bother taking it out of the bag. He yelled out CARS!! and started trying to play with it still in the packaging.

He was really pleased. Thanks Grandma and Grandpa!

Next was the Mack Truck full of cars from the Disney Movie CARS that we had gotten for Luke at Disney World. He was beside himself with excitement. He whimpered until Matt could get it out of the packaging. Definitely hit a home run with that one. He also got a Buzz Lightyear tricycle and some Megablocks.

It was a great little birthday celebration with our little family. I wouldn't have it any other way. It's been a joy watching Luke grow up. I am so proud of him, and proud to be his mother. I love you my sweet boy!

Instagram

I {heart} Instagram. I really do. Now that I got that off my chest, I can tell you a little bit about it. Matt got me a new Ipod Touch for Christmas. I needed an upgrade. My sad old Ipod just couldn't handle all my music and downloads anymore. I had heard a lot of buzz about Instagram. I was really bummed that I couldn't get the app on my Droid. It is an Apple only application. So guess what was the first thing I downloaded on my shiny new Ipod? That's right. Amazing.

Instagram is a photo editing application. You take a picture then you can apply different filters for a specific look and you can add captions and other fun things. It's one of the best Ipod/Phone camera editing applications. I have downloaded quite a few on my Droid, and I have to say, that Instagram is by far the best I have used so far. I love, love, love it. So here are a few of the pictures I have taken so far:

This handsome devil always gets me the best presents

And I promise to get Christmas photos up. I just am feeling a little lazy....
